VitroPlus in Burgh-Haamstede specializes in the propagation of ferns via tissue culture and spores, supplying millions of plants annually to customers worldwide. To keep up with growing demand, the company decided to expand its capacity with two new climate-controlled growth chambers. The challenge lay in executing this expansion within an active production environment: conditions in the existing chambers could not be disturbed at any point, while the work simultaneously had to seamlessly integrate with an installation that was completed at the end of 2022.
Nijssen connected the two new climate-controlled growth chambers to the existing installation, for which provisions had already been made during its completion in 2022. This allowed the expansion to be realized technically and logistically efficiently without interrupting ongoing production. The new chambers are fully integrated with the existing system, both in terms of climate control and cooling. Within the chambers, temperature and humidity are continuously monitored and adjusted via Nijssen's climate control system — even remotely. Lighting installations ensure the correct growth conditions; the additional heat load is continuously compensated with cooling, so that conditions remain stable for the ferns.
Forward-thinking design
When the installation was completed in 2022, the addition of extra climate chambers had already been taken into account. As a result, the new growth chambers could be connected quickly and without major modifications to the existing system — a direct result of proactive thinking during the design phase.

Our 20+ year partnership with Nijssen is built on continuity, mutual trust and smooth, efficient projects.
