Enza Zaden commissioned Nijssen to build four advanced plant growth rooms at their South African site. The core challenge was to evenly distribute air throughout the entire space and control the climate with high precision. Even minor deviations in temperature or humidity can affect the growth process. Furthermore, the installation had to be demonstrably reliable, even at a great distance from their home base in Leiden.

Nijssen designed and installed a fully customized cooling system, tailored to the specific requirements of the plant growth rooms. For maximum operational reliability, a redundant setup with two independent cooling circuits was chosen. Each room is equipped with two air coolers in combination with perforated side walls for even air distribution. All rooms are controlled and monitored via the Nijssen Climatemaster Control system, which provides the end-user with full insight into all relevant parameters.

Technical Features

The redundant cooling system guarantees uninterrupted cooling, even during maintenance or failure of one circuit. Through the Climatemaster Control system with remote access, the installation can be monitored, managed, and optimized remotely. A UPS on the control system handles temporary power outages, ensuring critical settings and processes remain intact.
